Visit from the In-Laws

The last week has been odd. Nice, but odd. But I guess that’s to be expected when you move in to your first house with your partner. In some ways, it still hasn’t sunk in. It kind of feels like Abis’s mum (who we had been living with) has just gone away on holiday for a week or so, and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s actually OUR OWN place. Just us two.

Every now and then something comes along to remind us though, like snotty letters from the TV Licensing Agency saying that they are about to place your household under investigation because we’ve been ignoring letters. Which we haven’t. We’d been living there for less than a week when we got the letter. But oh well, it’s sorted now.

We still don’t have any broadband yet, which is annoying but nothing I can really do about yet except wait. I had selected the wrong date for the engineer to come around and switch on the fibre optic (ooh, fancy) internet and tried to ring up TalkTalk with a view to bringing it forward a week. After 3 days worth of attempts at finding the right way to contact them, I ended up having to ring a new customer line and explaining to them that I don’t have a TalkTalk phone number yet, I’m a new customer (!). Finally got through and they told me that if I’m not happy with the current appointment, it’s going to have to wait until the end of October which obviously wasn’t going to happen.

Anyway, enough of that complaining. On Saturday, Abi’s mum and Granny came down to have a look at the flat and see what Sutton is like. Until this weekend, they had only really seen some pretty poorly taken photos and they were both impressed by how much space we had. We went for a walk in to town and down the high street which was nice and then went back and Abi took us all on a drive to show us where the school she is working/learning is as it’s in one of the next towns over. Then we came back and I assisted (to some degree) Abi cooking a nice roast dinner for us all. Chicken, gammon, roast potatoes and some green veg. And it was very nice, especially for a first attempt!

Work is going really well and am really enjoying it. I find it odd that there are so many people on Facebook and Twitter complaining about ‘Monday Morning Syndrome’ but I just don’t get it in the same way. Whilst I look forward to getting home on an evening, it certainly isn’t because I dislike work, it’s just that I like spending time with Abi more!

On that point, my lunch break is nearly up so I had better go. Need to eat the ham sandwiches I made myself this morning. No more Subway’s for me. Shame really. My sandwiches aren’t nearly as interesting 🙁
