Music Friday – 7 July 2017

Ahead of the weekend, let’s change the pace up on the recent posts and instead I’ll talk about the music I’ve been listening to recently.

The Menzingers – On The Impossible Past
I sometimes wonder if there will be a week when I don’t listen to this album but if there, it wasn’t this week. Released in 2012, I was only properly introduced to The Menzingers last year and this album quickly became one of my all time favourites. Whilst arguably no single track is a ‘stand out’ track, the entire album is incredibly consistent and I never find myself skipping certain tracks like I do on other albums. That said, Gates and The Obituaries are my personal favourites.

Danger Mouse – Chase Me (feat. Run The Jewels & Big Boi)
Only a single, but easily the single song I have listened to the most over the last week. Having been featured in a remix trailer to Baby Driver (see my review of Baby Driver here), this track gets you pumped up and ready to take on the world.

CHVRCHES – Every Open Eye
Whilst they work on their third studio album, I have found myself re-listening to their second album, Every Open Eye from 2015. Still one of my favourite gigs that have been to, the benefit of only having two albums means that they perform pretty much every song on the night and you don’t have to worry about whether your favourite song is going to make an appearance or not. A great summer album.

What have you been listening to recently? A friend has been insisting I listen to Wolf Alice recently, and Broken Social Scene have just released a new album and you should expect that to appear in next week’s list. If you have anything else you want to recommend, drop me a message on Twitter @colexus.

Catch you next week
Matt
